Q Where does my money go to?
10% of total cost goes to the Glorious Mission to help defer the overhead of the website, including the staff who answer your e-mails and coordinate thing. 60% is spent on food, house rent for where you staying, Airport pick up, etc. 30% spent for the Nepali staff who will be helping you as well as supporting the children in the Orphanage.
Q, What are the program locations in Nepal?
Our Orphanage where the program is based, is located 4KM from the heart of Kathmandu (Nepal's Capital), and about 12km far from Tribhuvan International Airport. The Church Ministry is based in a community in the south of Nepal which is about 210KM far from Kathmandu, and Pokhara which sits approx 200KM to the west of Kathmandu, but we are connected with work and all around Nepal, and can link you with this, according your interests.
Q, When do I need to arrived for my program?
One day before, program start.
Q, What will happened once I arrived to Nepal?
Volunteers are picked up from Tribhuvan International Airport by local staff or coordinator. After you have been picked up, you will be transferred to your accommodation.
Q, When I will know specific details of my placement?
Once you have applied, we will sent you details of placement.
Q, I want to know more about accommodation arrangement?
We provide you with accommodation from your start date and the end of the program. Accommodation is provided at the Compassion Orphanage Home for those who work in the Orphanage. If you work in the Church ministry or community, we will provide you with accommodation in the Local Church area. We have internet access, including wireless, so fell free to bring your laptop.
Q, What will be the food arrangement?
All volunteer will be provided 2 Nepali meals, and vegetarian is available on request - although due to the cost of meat, many meals will be vegetarian out of necessity. Tea, coffee and snacks are available at any time.
Q, What are the age range to Volunteer?
Volunteer must be 17 years or older, there is no upper age limit - that said, you must be fit to travel and work.
Q, Can Couples or Families join the Volunteer program?
Yes, Couples and families are welcome to join our program.
Q, What immunizations/vaccinations will I need?
We recommend you to speak to your Doctor before coming or see the CDC Pages for Nepal.
Q, Are there more expenses once I arrive in Nepal?
Your program fee covers your food, accommodation and airport pick up. You will need to cover yourself for your personal expenses such as traveling, telephone, shopping and sightseeing etc. Traveling within Nepal is cheap. You may be consider Medical insurance us well.
Q, Where can I change my money in Nepal?
You can change money any Bank or Airport by showing your passport, Money changer are available in Kathmandu as well.
Q, Are there ATM’s in Nepal?
There are plenty of ATM’s in Nepal, especially in Tourist area.
Q, What hours will I volunteer every day?
Usually work 4-5 hours in a day, depending on the program.
Q, What Visa do I need to get?
You need to apply for a Tourist Visa. You can easily get tourist visa in your home country, however you can get Visa arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu as well - but be prepared to queue!!!!
Q, Do I need travel insurance?
We suggest it, but it’s up to you.
Q, I hear many people become sick from drinking water in Nepal, how can I prevent this?
All water in our home is both boiled and filtered. You can also get bottled water. That said, there is no way of guaranteeing that you will avoid sickness in our country!
Q, I would like to bring things that the Children might like or need, can you give us some example?
If you want, we suggest to bring notebook, pens, balloons, educational toys or a book (in English) on games to be played in the indoor and outdoor.
Q, Why I should pay to volunteer?
A good question; many volunteers are disappointed as they expect free food and accommodation in return for their services. It takes a lot of effort to seek out good, honest places for you to volunteer and places that can support Western visitors with language skills and the ability to help you understand of our culture. Conditions are always shifting and changing in Nepal so we have Nepali staff on hand to help and support you at all times. They need to make a living and support themselves too. There's a lot of logistics that goes into making sure you have a perfect trip.
